What can you expect?

Art

Wageningen University & Research has always paid attention to and been interested in visual arts. Also based on the idea that art and science, both driven by curiosity, can reinforce and inspire each other. The tradition is that a new work of art is placed at the opening of a new building. With the move of education and research to Wageningen Campus, many of the works have moved with it. Usually there is an interface with the domain of Wageningen University & Research. But artworks commemorating a particular event can also be found on campus. In total, there are around 40 artworks.

Buildings and grounds

The urban design follows the linear alley structure of the historical cultural landscape on which the campus is located. Between two brick roads running from east to west, a landscape strip was designed with monoliths rising from the greenery: tall buildings without bulges in one type of cladding. The first monolith was Atlas, built in 2006 at the main entrance to Wageningen Campus. The landscape strip is flanked by relatively low buildings in line with the Wageningen Research institutes that were already present here, such as Lumen, Gaia and Radix. All buildings have their own history and characteristics.

Sustainability

Wageningen Campus inspires innovators to work towards a sustainable future by providing a sustainable working environment: 80% of the campus is already climate neutral. In 2023, Wageningen University & Research was named the most sustainable university according to the GreenMetric ranking for the seventh consecutive time. And companies and organisations located on campus also score well in terms of sustainability. In terms of energy (both consumption and in sustainable generation), water use, construction, waste and raw materials use, catering and mobility, Wageningen Campus strives for the highest achievable.

Nature

Research and education, spin-offs, NGOs and companies work together on the campus on themes such as healthy food, circular economy and biodiversity. Themes are then also actively applied within the campus itself wherever possible. And this within a green environment with beautiful water features where students and staff but also visitors can relax, The grasslands, hedges and wooded areas on not only form a green oasis of tranquillity, but are also part of ecological connecting zones that support the migration, reproduction and development of flora and fauna.
